Marcus Ekure hails from Delta state in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria. He is an award-winning consultant, strategist, and researcher with a passion for innovation, entrepreneurship development and social justice. He is a highly sought-after motivational speaker and mentor to many. Marcus is on a mission to radically disrupt prevalent limiting assumptions about poverty, rurality, and entrepreneurial capacity. Hence, through powerful place-based, barefoot-inspired and time-bound interventions, he is developing a replicable rural entrepreneurship development model to enact socio-economic rearmament in even the most deprived and challenging areas, with strategic potential to effectively contribute to realisation of 12 of the United Nations’ sustainable development goals.

Marcus’ career has been marked by notable accomplishments in leadership and corporate governance, strategic marketing, and entrepreneurship development. Besides being a founder of a thriving non-governmental organisation which is making significant impact in the Niger Delta region and board member of many organisations, he has successfully supported leading institutions in Africa such as the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, to achieve specific organisational objectives which include successful establishment and management of its entrepreneurship and innovation institute. He has also facilitated in scores of global strategies and socio-economic intervention programs, including the ongoing project to replicate the Blue Ocean Strategy for entrepreneurship development in Nigeria through the establishment of a Blue Ocean Corner.

Marcus’ professional affiliation cut across reputable global institutions such as the British Academy of Management, Institute of Management Consultants, Institute for Small Business and Entrepreneurship, Centre for African Research on Enterprise and Economic Development, Chartered Management Consultants, Entrepreneurship as Practice, etc. He holds a doctoral certificate in Marketing, and currently concluding a second doctoral program in the field of Entrepreneurship, Strategy and Social Innovation at the University of Strathclyde, United Kingdom where he is contributing to research development and practice through his research work which focuses on building a replicable model for rural entrepreneurship development aimed at poverty alleviation in deprived contexts.
